Does anyone know why EWZ & BKF have been steadily heading down these
last couple weeks? I haven't been able to find any news that should
negatively influence the share prices. |

I may be crazy, but IMHO, even though EWZ tanks every day, Brazil is a safe place to invest now. Why? They are the commodity king and the commodity bull market (which has been decimated recently by overleveraged hedged funds) will resume more strongly when the rest of the US banks falter in the next few weeks. After all is said and done, the US government is printing money like crazy to contain the crisis and will need to print maybe $500 billion+ more to save the banking system.
After the crisis is contained the dollar will completely collapse again, as the US financial system will not recover from this crisis for many, many years. People will no longer trust their investments in US banks. They will then flock to hard assets, like oil, gold etc. Brazil and EWZ will once again benefit from the continued flight out of the dollar and into commodities.
This is my crazy logic. But, I believe it and I'm betting on it. One more thing to consider is that Brazil is actually fiscally prudent, as opposed to the US. If only the US practiced what it preached (or should I say enforced) to third world countries, like Brazil during past crises, we would not be in so much trouble.
Best of luck. |

Nice point here. I am looking how India managed to be a part of the BRIC team since it used to be a part of the third world countries. _________________ Debt Consolidation |

Equities in Brazil came under additional pressure toward the end of the session following reports that the country will levy a 1.5% tax on certain transactions related to American Depositary Receipts of Brazilian companies.
