How to increase brake pad life
Replacing a brake pad can be expensive, especially if it also erodes the rotors. It therefore makes sense to change your driving habits so that it will increase the life of the brake pads. Here are few things you can do for this.
1. Do not drive fast in City lanes. Chances are – you are going to hit stop signs or the red light. You will have to use brakes more often and which will decrease brake life. Driving fast and stopping frequently will also eat up a lot of gas.
2. Slow down early before stop signs. Spot the stop signs early and remove your legs from the gas paddle. The car will automatically slow down before the stop sign. Less use of brake and longer life.
3. Slow down before a red light. Same as above – anticipate your stopping and slow down accordingly.
4. Use less gas on a down hill. You car automatically accelerates on a downhill, so, if you give gas, it will accelerate further and will require more use of Brakes when you need to.
It is a good idea to buy new cars that will have longer brake life and is better from safety perspective.
